Episode 1 - Lightning and Space Turds
Thanks for listening to the first episode of the All New, All Different Krakathoom! For this and each episode of the show you'll find here a very brief breakdown of the issues we discuss in each segment, as well as images from those issues.
In this episode, Herman and Grant discussed Marvel Premier #1, in which the mysterious and powerful being previously known only as Him begins a new life as Adam Warlock. In a tale by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane that is very much a sci-fi take on Biblical references, Adam becomes the cosmic messiah of Counter Earth at the behest of that world's creator, the High Evolutionary.
For our "Lightning Strikes Twice" segment, Grant and Herman each discussed a favorite comic book issue from times past.
Grant covered Uncanny X-Men #222, which features two interwoven stories, one of the X-Men battling the Marauders, including the Malice-possessed Polaris, in San Francisco, and the other of Storm fighting the supernatural Eye Killers on her quest to regain her powers.
Herman reviewed All-Star Squadron #36, the story of Captain Marvel (aka Shazam to younger readers), who has mysteriously turned up in pre-Crisis Earth 2, been separated from his young alter ego Billy Batson, and who has been mystically brainwashed by Adolf Hitler to fight the Allied forces in Europe.
In our philosophical corner, "Thus Spoke Zarathustra", Grant and Herman discussed the ethics of characters who use, or specifically refuse to use, lethal force in comics, such as Spider-Man, Batman, the Punisher, and Wolverine.
In our Lightning Reviews segment, Herman and Grant gave quick 140 synopses of some of their favorite comics. First up, Herman offered up Alpha Flight #2 (1983)...
... Batman and the Outsiders #19 (1984)...
...and Legion of Superheroes vol 3 #11 (1990).
Grant went with arcs from Uncanny X-Force #20-23 (2012)...
...All New Wolverine #1-6 (2015)...
...and Extraordinary X-Men #1-3.

Finally, in our news segment, "Beyond Comics", we talked about the current Fox X-Men TV spin off show "The Gifted", and discussed how excited we are about the upcoming Domino ongoing series by Gail Simone and (with cautious optimism) Greg Land.
